The Public Information Centre is an important part of the Historical Public Library of Mythimna Argyris Eftaliotis and is hosted in a specially designed area of the Library. Visitors to the library have free access to the Information Centre and are provided with specialized support in order to search for information on a series of topics, as for example history, economics, tourism, education, culture, etc. The Historical Public Library of Mythimna Argyris Eftaliotis has six (6) computers available for the public. It also provides equal access of disabled people to the library services. These services are addressed to:
  • Residents with impaired vision. There is a computer with special programmes (i.e. supernoval) providing readers with blindness or poor eyesight with access to modern technologies. Readers can also use the Braille titles and the special printer able to print any item in Braille.
  • Residents with physical disabilities. There is a computer with aids and special devices for people with physical and other disabilities.
Using the Public Information Centre All citizens are entitled to use the computers.To do this they should before hand submit an application to the Library personnel. A member of the Library personnel will indicate which computer can be used by each reader. Children under the age of 12 should be escorted by a parent or guardian. Users of the Information Centre using computers should have basic computer knowledge. After completing their work users should not shut off the computer but leave it on the start screen they originally received at. The use of computers is allowed only during library opening hours.
  • There is no limit to computer time given that there are available computers for all users. If however, all computers are being used and there are users waiting, there will be a priority rule and computer time will be limited to 30 minutes per person/user. In general, computer time for each computer is regulated by the library personnel and is always based on current conditions. Moreover, the library personnel can suspend computer services if in their judgment this obstructs the proper function of the library.
  • Computer hardware and software use of the Information Centre should be done with particular respect to copyright and without deliberately creating problems to other users or damage to existing computer equipment. It is strictly forbidden to make modifications to the equipment and software of the Centre.
Therefore it is not allowed to do the following:
  • Use, copy and circulate illegal software
  • Split files through special programs and install programs
  • Change computers desktops, copy CDs or DVDs without permission from the library personnel
  • Damage or cause malfunctions to the equipment, software or material of the library
  • Save personal files on computers hard disks
  • Have access to electronic mail
To use CDs and other storage devices (e.g. memory sticks, USB/flash drives), users should inform the library personnel beforehand and use them only after permission has been given to do so. In case there is a problem with the computer (e.g. a virus) users have to inform a member of the library personnel immediately and never try to fix the problem themselves. Regarding the internet the library has no responsibility for the reliability of the information provided. All adults are fully responsible for access points chosen and the material located. However, it is strictly forbidden to download any executable programme for which there is no permission. The same preconditions apply for the use of the internet by children and adolescents. We would like to inform parents and guardians that they are solely responsible for the navigation of their children on the internet.

The Library has the right to

  • Impose penalties and fines for damage to equipment and programs done deliberately, due to negligence or potential guile.
  • Withdraw the right to the use of computers and the internet initially for two days in case regulations are not followed.
  • Withdraw the right to access the services of the Information Centre from anyone who will not comply to personnel recommendations, obstruct other users and repeatedly violate the library regulations.
