Books
For the classification of its materials, our Library follows the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) System, whereby items are divided according to their subject matter into 10 main classes or subject categories using numbers from 0 to 9 .Each class has 10 subdivisions and each subdivision has 10 sections. Whole numbers are also subdivided into decimals. Each classification number is completed by the first three letters of the author's surname or, where this is not possible, by the first three letters of the title.
The Library's items are not cataloged in an online automated library catalog. However, they are recorded, for the most part, by thematic category, in excel files and partially available on the Library's website in the Catalog Menu. A constant effort is being made to complete the registration, by the limited staff of the library and by the members of the Ephorate Council.
The 10 main classes of DDC are:
- (000) General topics
- (100) Philosophy-Psychology
- (200) Religion
- (300) Social Sciences
- (400) Language
- (500) Natural sciences and mathematics
- (600) Technology-applied sciences
- (700) Arts and Entertainment-Fine and Decorative Arts
- (800) Literature and rhetoric
- (900) History-Geography
